Coed Varsity Wrestling · Bulldog Highlight: James Tomasi – Wrestling

Sports Marketing students Jason Aleman and Cash Barker, sit down with James Tomasi and listen to his thoughts on the upcoming Wrestling season:

Q. So Jimmy how confident are you coming into this wrestling season?

A: I’m pretty confident! A lot of the opponents that really challenged me last year have graduated, so I am one of the only remaining state placers.

Q. How is the team looking after only the first week or two?

A: We look pretty small, we have a lot of newcomers so hopefully we get a couple returning wrestlers from years past to help our team.

Q. How is practice going in general?

A: It’s going pretty good! Our Head Coach, Coach Olsen is pretty new to coaching. Coach Olsen says it should be a much more fun and I’m looking forward to it.

Q. What are your thoughts coming into the new region?

A: The region change was good for football because the teams aren’t very good, but for wrestling it’s gonna be really hard, we have Payson entering our region for the first time who were 4a state champs last year, and we also have Wasatch coming into the region who were 5a state champs last year. So i think it will be a hard year with our little team.

Q. Who do you think the toughest competition is coming into the new region?

A: The schools in our region don’t really have a heavyweight that will challenge me, but there are other schools like East High and Box Elder that have pretty good heavy weights that will challenge me.

Q. What are you going to do different this year coming off your state championship?

A: Last year was pretty hard because i started st 315 and i had to drop 30 lbs to make it to 285, but this year is different because I’m starting the year off at 295 so there is a lot less weight to drop so I wont be tired all the time.
