soccer · Bulldog Highlight: James Allen – Boys Soccer

Editors Note:  Unfortunately, spring sports for so many of our athletes have been stopped due to the coronavirus outbreak.  Here at provobulldogathletics.com (soon to be provobulldogs.com), we would still like to highlight some of our amazing student-athletes.  PHS’s Sports and Entertainment Marketing students will be bringing you highlights and reports until we get back to school and back to normal life.  Thanks for checking in on Provo High School’s source for all things extracurricular.

When did you start playing soccer and what made you want to do it?

I started playing soccer when I was 4 years old. I really only played because my older brothers did. It was third grade when I found that I really loved soccer and started playing competitively.
Unfortunately, this season is probably going to end early. What were you looking forward to the most about this year before you heard it was probably going to be canceled?

The state tournament for sure. We had a really good team this year and I know we would have only gotten better throughout the season. We have 8 seniors and almost all of them were starters. On top of that experience, this was Coach Cardoso’s last year and we wanted to do big things for him too. So I mean it was heartbreaking when we heard the news.

What are some of your goals regarding soccer?

Win a state championship either in high school or for my club team. Then I have a goal to play at the next level for BYU men’s soccer.

What have you enjoyed the most so far about playing soccer for Provo High?

Learning from my teammates. I have learned how much hard work is needed to be good. The seniors on this team especially are always pushing me to bring everything I have to every workout and to every practice.

How has COVID-19 affected your training?

It hasn’t affected my personal training. I can’t play pick up games with my team or anything but I have still been grinding, from 3 mile runs, to juggling, to working out, doing whatever I can to be ready for the time when this whole quarantine is over.
Who is your favorite soccer player and why?

Andrés Iniesta because he’s so crafty with the ball. He has amazing footwork, and is one of the smartest players on the field.
