Some of our Bulldogs qualified for the State Tournament at Liberty Park this week! (3rd Singles: Sally Otterstrom, 2nd Doubles: Brooklyn Petersen and Hailey Wilcox) We asked them some questions about the tournament this Thursday and Saturday.
How does it feel to qualify for State?
Sally: “It feels pretty good to qualify. The last two years I’ve barely come short of making it to state, and this is a super good experience to play some good competition. I feel like my game has improved even just over the region tournament.”
Brooklyn: “It feels so great lol”
Hailey: “To qualify for state is an amazing feeling. Especially after working hard and putting so many hours in to get there.”
What are you looking forward to in the State tournament?
Sally: “I’m looking forward to see how well I can do against the top players of other regions and supporting the second doubles team!”
Brooklyn: “I’m looking forward to seeing how well we play and how it is because it’s my first year”
Hailey: “I’m looking forward to play[ing] a quality match.”
What are you doing to prepare for the tournament?
Sally: “I’ve been preparing by practicing as normal every day for two hours, trying to get enough sleep and drinking lots of water. I’ve also been working on stretching every night and after practice.”
Brooklyn: “I’m practicing a lot and preparing myself physically and mentally hahaha”
Hailey: “To get ready for state I have practiced everyday with a high focus and positive attitude.”
What are your expectations heading into Thursday?
Brooklyn: “I’m expecting there to be really good teams but I hope we play well and do our best”
Hailey: “I don’t know what to expect but I’m going to play to the best of my abilities and just have fun.”
Thank you and good luck to Sally, Brooklyn, and Hailey! Go Bulldogs!
